| "It is better
to journey than to arrive", says Richard Madden, adventure
travel editor of the Telegraph
newspaper.
The act of going from A to B is part of the adventure
of travel, he told the Adventure
Travel and Sports Show that took place in London on January
13th to 15th.
One of Madden's favourite journeys in the past five
years was a three-day trek to the 'lost city' in northern Colombia.
The city had remained covered in the forest until 1975, when it
was rediscovered.
He stressed the importance of taking a guide with
a good local knowledge because some people walking the trail had
been kidnapped. Columbia "is a country I would urge you to
visit," he said. "It is just a matter of getting information
on where is safe and where isn't."
Another favourite journey was to Mustang in Nepal,
where a good way of getting to know local families is to stay with
them overnight. Other favourites were sailing down the Antarctic
Peninsula on a ship and following the 60 mile KoKoda trail that
crosses the mountains in Papua New Guinea.
