| Travelling on overland
truck through Africa is still considered the safest and most economical
way of seeing such a diverse continent, according to Global
Village that organises overland tours through local firm Africa
Travel Company.
People are sometimes put off going to Africa because
of safety concerns, an Africa Travel Company tour leader told the
TNT Magazine
Travel Show that took place in London on March 18th.
But safety is not an issue, she explained. In reality,
the crew on an overland adventure safari know everything there is
to know about Africa, the continent has a good infrastructure, and
overlanding trucks are custom built for the terrain.
Africa Travel Co, which is an adventure overland
tour specialist operating safaris throughout southern and eastern
Africa, takes groups of around 25 people on three- to 56-day safaris.
A large group has the advantage that you can meet
a diverse range of people, according to the tour leader. It is easy
to find your own space, she added. And it is a good idea to take
a book.
The truck is like a mobile home that will stop as
little or as much as you want it to. Journey times vary from two
hours to the whole day.
It is also a welcome base for equipment, allowing
you to relax, do activities, visit markets and embrace the hospitality
of local people.
