spacerspacerOverland the Americas with Exodus
Home

Exodus' overland journey through the Americas takes nine months. But the trip from Alaska to Venezuela is split into sectors so you can join at any point and stay as long as you like.

Some long driving days - with up to 11 hours in the truck - are interspersed with the opportunity to take photos of scenery and wildlife. On route, you can participate in activities such as white water rafting, hiking, surfing, mountain biking and dancing.

Overlanding is not for everyone, says Ian Dicken of Exodus.

It is a self-sufficient participatory holiday. Everyone shops, cooks and puts up tents.

Leaders are not tour guides, but they do know the best places to go and can tell you where to meet local people. They can also advise on how to respect the environment and local communities.

Even when unforeseen hazards, such as blocked roads and mechanical difficulties, delay the overland journey, they add colour to the experience and to your memories.

Sectors across the Americas include:

  • Anchorage to Seattle. Via Denali National Park in sub-arctic Alaska.
  • Seattle to San Diego. Via Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas.
  • San Diego to Mexico City. Via Baja California, Guadalajara and Teotihuacan.
  • Mexico City to Guatemala. Via the Sumidero Canyon, the Yucatan Peninsula and Belize.
  • Guatemala to Panama. Via Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
  • Quito to Lima. Via the Equator, Inca ruins and the Moche pyramids.
  • Lima to La Paz. Via the Ballestos Islands, Machu Picchu and Arequipa.
  • La Paz to Santiago. Via the world's highest city - Potosi, the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia and Argentina.
  • Santiago to Ushuaia. Via Bariloche, the Moreno Glacier and Torres del Paine National Park.
  • Ushuaia to Buenos Aires. Via Tierra del Fuego, the Petrified Forest and the Valdez peninsula.
  • Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro. Via the Iguassu Falls, the Pantanal and the Costa Verde.
  • Rio to Belem. Via Salvador, Olinda and the Ubajara National Park.
  • Belem to Manaus. Via the Amazon river.
  • Manaus to Caracas. Via Canaima National Park, Angel Falls and Mochima National Park.
