Work out a career break budget to avoid disappointment
Home

Work out a career break budget well in advance of departure to avoid disappointment on your travels.

Most gappers spend around £6,000 in total, a panel of experts told the Adventure Travel and Sports Show that took place in London on January 13th to 15th.

Though costs are higher in some countries than others, for someone travelling to different places, day-to-day expenditure on a career break is likely to be around £30 to £40 per day.

"The more you move round, the more you spend," said Paul Goodyear of Nomad Travel Stores.

In addition to day-to-day expenses, a career break budget should include the cost of flights, equipment, immunisations and insurance.

Pension contributions, national insurance, and other ongoing bills may have to be paid while you are away. It is also important to put some money aside for when you return.
