A main reason people
volunteer on a project abroad is to learn about the country visited,
says Anthony Lunch, managing director of Mondo
Challenge.
To integrate better with the local community, volunteers
should learn some of the local language, Lunch told the One
Life show that took place in London in March. They should also
consider cultural differences by acting sensitively and wearing
appropriate clothing.
Mondo Challenge sends volunteers to help with development
programmes in Africa, Asia and South America.
According to Lunch, volunteers are encouraged to
travel within the country in question. He says a volunteer placement
provides the ideal opportunity to do this.
