Youth development charity,
Raleigh
International, sends 700 to 1,000 young people to work on community,
environmental, and adventure projects each year.
Volunteers work with young people and members of
the local community for 12 weeks in countries like Costa Rica, Nicaragua,
Ghana and Namibia, Rachel Collinson from the organisation told the
One Life
show that took place in London in March.
Raleigh has a permanent presence in those countries
to ensure it offers worthwhile and sustainable projects, Collinson
said. Training is given to volunteers, who must be enthusiastic
and able to cope in challenging environments.
She added that volunteering in such a way can help
you acquire new skills, increase your confidence and enhance your
career prospects.
