i-to-i launches lion monitoring programme
Home

i-to-i has a launched a programme to monitor the movement and behavioural patterns of a pride of lions at the Selati game reserve in South Africa's Limpopo province.

The organisation, which specialises in holidays for people who want to contribute something to the countries they visit, says that this pioneering research will enable mangers to determine the carrying capacity and sustainability of large predators on the reserve.

The Selati game reserve is around 30,000 hectares and also homes elephants, leopards, rhino and antelope.

Volunteers will spend long hours observing behaviour and must expect early mornings and late nights, as hours are based upon the animals' movements. They will learn skills such as animal identification, radio use, tracking and navigation techniques.
